COMPANY AUDITIONS

2012 - 2013

Interested in trying out for one of our competitive dance companies?

 Tryout dates are as follows:

Tuesday, August 28th	Wednesday, August 29th
Level I: Minimum age of 8; 4:30 p.m. – 6:15 p.m. Level II: Minimum age of 13; Group 1: 6:30 – 8:15 p.m. Group 2: 8:30 – 10:15 p.m. Student will learn a Lyrical/Ballet, Jazz & Tap combination on this day!	Students will Audition the 3 combinations they learned on the Tuesday, Aug. 28th in front of a panel of judges. They will be given an exact time to return for their tryout on Wednesday when they sign in on Tuesday.

***Ages for auditions are also based on levels of dance. Ages 8 & Up are similar to Level I at Dance Camp and Ages 13 and Up will be Level II. Dancers should look at the Levels described below to see where they should audition. Any dancer is welcome to bump down to the Level I audition if they feel necessary, but no dancer 12 and under may bump up to the Level II audition unless they are approached by Spotlight Faculty to do so. If you are new to Spotlight, are in the in between age range, or are unsure for any reason about which audition to come to please speak to Dede or Lindsay and they will guide you to the appropriate audition for you***

CAMP LEVELS 2012: 

WHICH LEVEL ARE YOU? Read the descriptions below to get a better idea of what class level you should participate in, or please ask instructors for their opinion if you are still unsure.

LEVEL I: (8 yrs old & up): Dancers should have some experience in these subjects, but it is not necessary to have extensive knowledge. They should have worked on single pirouettes and may be working towards doubles, grand jete and developpe leaps, chaine turns in combinations etc. These classes will incorporated barre, across the floor and center floor combinations, but will be moving at a slower pace than Level II classes and will be concentrating on basic technical elements within combinations.

LEVEL II: Dancers should have a strong grasp on these dance techniques already and are looking to expand their talent with advanced choreography. They should already have strong double pirouettes working for triples and other advanced technical elements such as fouettes, attitude leaps etc. Expect combinations to be high paced and to be taught quickly. Classes will include center floor, barre and across the floor materials depending on the class.

Don't forget to come to the studio next Wednesday, August 8th or Thursday, August 9th from 4 - 7 p.m. for our OPEN HOUSE & REGISTRATION for our 2012 - 2013 dance season! We will be registering for next season's weekly classes as well as our 2012 Dance Camp that runs August 13th - 16th and our Company Auditions that take place August 28th & 29th.

We wanted to say a big thank you to each and every one of our dancers and parent volunteers during last week's Spring Concert 2012. We could not be more proud of all of our students and we hope you had as much fun up on the stage as we had watching you all shine! 

Because of your generosity, we were able to raise $1000 to donate through the Children's Miracle Network benefiting the Pediatric Oncology unit at Hurley Hospital in Flint. THANK YOU for finding it in you hearts to help make a difference in our community!

Concert 2012

Here is the schedule for our Spring Concert week! Everyone is doing such a great job, we are so proud and can't wait to see the show put together and on the stage soon! Keep up the hard work and ENJOY YOUR TIME IN THE SPOTLIGHT! 

• Don't forget classes run as usual through this Sunday, May6th. 
• Starting Monday, May 7th all rehearsals are held at the U of M -Flint Theatre.  The University Theatre is located at the corner of Wallenberg and Kearsley Streets downtown Flint. 

Monday, May 7th: Company, Funkdafied & Adagio Rehearsal 

• Starting at 5 p.m. No costumes. This is to block and rehearsal all Company, Funkdafied & Adagio dances on the U of M Flint stage. Be ready to begin at 5 p.m. sharp.

Tuesday, May 8th: FULL COSTUME DRESS REHEARSAL

• Rehearsal Schedule
• 3 & 4's who dance in the Thursday Evening, Saturday Matinee & Sunday Matinee Shows: Start at 4 p.m.
• 5, 6 & 7's who dance in the Thursday Evening, Saturday Matinee & Sunday Matinee Shows; Start at 4:30 p.m.
• Advanced Hip Hop dancers must be at the Theatre ready to rehearse that dance with the 5,6 & 7's Hip Hop at 5 p.m.
• All 8, 9 & 10, Teen and Company Dancers: Start at 5:30 p.m. We will start with running the Finale first. Then the 3 - 7 year old dancers will be excused and we will start at the beginning of the show in order stopping to block and fix any issues with the dances. 
• This will be our longest night. So make sure to bring snacks and plenty of water. We will go as fast as we can!

Wednesday, May 9th: FULL COSTUME DRESS REHEARSAL

• Rehearsal Schedule
• 3 & 4's who dance in the Friday & Saturday Evening Shows: Start at 4 p.m.
• 5, 6 & 7's who dance in the Friday & Saturday Evening Shows: Start at 4:30 p.m.
• Advanced Hip Hop dancers must be at the Theatre ready to rehearse that dance with the 5, 6 & 7's Hip Hop at 5 p.m.
• All 8, 9 & 10, Teen and Company Dancers: Start at 5:30 p.m. We will start with running the Finale first. It will run very close to the exact length of the show!

All monthly payments through May, Costume Fees, Recital Fees and Competition Fees MUST BE PAID IN FULL. *You can pay your bill at ticket sales. ALL TICKET SALES ARE FINAL. We will not be organizing any exchanging of tickets! All ticket exchanges will be done between ticket holders.

RAINBOW CONNECTION COMPETITION 2012:

This weekend we are taking 20 routines to the Rainbow Connection Regional Competition at Waterford Mott High School. Good luck to Red, White, Blue, Funkdafied & Adagio dancers competing this weekend. We are so proud of all of you and all of the hard work you have put in to making this weekend a success. Entrance to the competition is free, so come on down and cheer on our Company dancers! The tentative performance schedule is as follows:

Company Church Rehearsal Tonight

DON'T FORGET ABOUT TONIGHT'S MANDATORY REHEARSAL FOR ALL COMPANY & ADAGIO DANCERS COMPETING AT THIS WEEKEND'S RAINBOW CONNECTION COMPETITION.

Rehearsal for Rainbow Connection

5:30 – 9:00 p.m. (NO COSTUMES; Wear appropriate dance attire and bring all shoes!)

All dancers competing are called at 5:30; we will be making our way through all of the routines. We will try to get the Blue company dancers out first. BE READY TO DANCE AT 5:30!!! We will be handing out a tentative competition schedule at tonight's rehearsal!

Recital Fee Due This Week!

RECITAL FEE

Due with your MARCH PAYMENT!

$100 for your first dancer, and $25 for each additional dancer in the family.

With your $100 payment, you will receive 5 tickets for the concert.

With each additional child’s payment, you will receive one more ticket per child.

(i.e. 1 child = $100 & 5 tickets, 2 children = $125 & 6 tickets, 3 children = $150 & 7 tickets…)

• YOU MAY GET YOUR INITIAL RECITAL FEE TICKETS ON Sunday, March 25^th : 1p.m. – 3:30p.m.
• You will receive your initial set of tickets that you are given with your recital fee. Tickets will not be given or saved to anyone who is not paid in full through May. All monthly payments through May, Costume Fees, Recital Fees and Competition Fees must be paid in Full. You can pay your bill at ticket sales. ALL TICKET SALES ARE FINAL. We will not be organizing any exchanging of tickets! All ticket exchanges will be done between ticket holders.
• *If your balance is paid you can order your tickets over the phone after 1 p.m. on March 25^th. You can also pay your balance in person or over the phone on that day in order to get your tickets.
• Once we start our Open ticket sales on April 15th we WILL SELL OUT. So make sure to get your payments in and pick our your first 5 tickets ASAP!

• **You can start purchasing additional tickets for $15 per ticket on Sunday April 15^th from 1- 3:30 p.m. Please try to spread you family and friends throughout all 5 shows. We want everyone to enjoy the show, and hope we can all work together to make that possible.**

Company U of M Rehearsal Today!

ALL COMPANY & ADAGIO DANCERS!!!

Don't forget about today's MANDATORY DRESS REHEARSAL at U of M Flint Theatre from 2 - 6 p.m.for all dancers going to the Rainbow Connection dance competition.

Be at the Theatre and ready to take the Full Company picture in your "Firework" costume, jewelry, hair & make-up before 2 p.m. We will be taking the picture on the stage at 2 p.m. sharp.

We will be staging and running ALL ROUTINES GOING TO RAINBOW CONNECTION so make sure to bring of your costumes for those dances and shoes/accessories. We will be starting with the group numbers and then making our way through the routines. Once we have gotten through the routines you are in you will be excused to leave at that time. Dancers in the Solos, Duets, Trios & Small Groups will most likely be staying the longest because we will run those routines toward the end of the rehearsal. See you there!

Mid-Winter Break

Don't forget this weekend in Mid-Winter Break from Friday, February 17th - Monday, February 20th. All classes are cancelled except for Teen & Senior Adagio which will take place as usual on Sunday. Have a great break, and we will see you all next week!

STARQUEST DANCE COMPETITION 2012: This Friday & Saturday we are taking 13 solo, duo, trio & small group routines to the StarQuest Dance Competition at Walled Lake Northern High School. Good luck to all of the company dancers competing this weekend. You have all worked very hard to prepare for this weekend and we are very proud of you and excited to see you all shine up on that stage.
